Hardy and Alison
We met in the communal photographic Darkroom at the RAAF School of Photography East Sale. Alison was in the RAAF at the time and Hardy was in the RAN. We both completed our training and then served as photographers in the above-mentioned services. Our photographic training was very strict but offered us both a wide variety of learning opportunities which translated into invaluable experiences.
During this time, Alison photographed the Queen and many Dignitaries,photographed Medical Evacuations and the day to day workings of the R.A.A.F. After which she completed some post graduate training in biomedical photography and worked in Medical photography at St Vincent’s Hospital Darlinghurst.
Hardy was part of the 75th R.A.N. Anniversary and photographed planes and ships as well as many Political Dignitaries including John Howard and the day to day workings of the R.A.N.
We took our combined knowledge and passion for photography to Queensland where we started Focal Point Photos in Toowoomba in 1991. Many strong friendships were formed in these early years and throughout we learned the value of networking, being accountable, and becoming better communicators.
Alison Ahlhaus is a Lifetime Member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP). We both believe strongly in supporting the photo industry that has supported us along the way on our photographic journey. Alison has been a volunteer judge in national photographic awards and competitions for many years and was a highly accomplished and respected vocational educator and trainer in Photography with TAFE Queensland South West for over 20 years.
Always looking to grow and innovate, Focal Point Photos took a huge step in 2013 when Hardy Ahlhaus became accredited with Google as a “Google Street View Trusted” photographer to provide 21st-century photographic services for businesses across Toowoomba, Brisbane, and South East Queensland.
Following his many successes as a Google Street View Trusted Photographer, in 2016, Hardy received accreditation from Google to offer his services across Australia. Same great service and exceptional photography, now available across the country. 360 Google Virtual Tours are a great way to allow the public through your doors even if there are restrictions because your online business is open 24/7, allowing access to any potential client.
